Here are some of the worst crimes of history

1) The recent Virginia Tech Massacre is one of the worst crime in history, committed by a Korean, left 33 dead and others injured. This massacre was sparked off by the student's hatred for the materialism of today's society and killed people of different backgrounds to tell the world how much he hates the world.

2) The massacre in Nan King committed by the Japanese Army during World War II left approximately 300,000 people dead.

3) Huang Na's case in Singapore whereby a Malaysian murdered a Chinese National and wrapped her up in nine layers of plastic bags before placing her body in a cardboard box and sealing it with adhesive tapes.

I think the worst crime of all 3 mentioned was the massacre at Nan King during World War II. I believe that the crime committed were the most inhumane of all, killing everyone including women and children who were innocent. They were killed basically cause they were Chinese and it's no different from a genocide. Compared to the other two cases, the Japanese had a clear mind when committing the crime and they derived joy out of killing the innocent and violating their rights, thus unforgivable. The most despicable part about it was the fact that the Japanese government denied the massacre and named the massacre as an 'incident' and the 300,000 deceased were military in nature. The reluctance for repent only projected an image of how immoral the Japanese are by persisting that the raping, looting and killing were justifiable.

The Ministry of Education in Japan censored any mention of the Nanking massacre, China and South Korea protested strongly which proves that the 300,000 deceased was not military in nature and further proves that the Japanese are not worthy of our forgiving.

Capital Punishment

Capital punishment refers to the execution of convicted criminals for severe crimes such as murder and drug trafficking. What follows are my views on the issue.

I agree that such punishment is perfectly alright even in today's society. One of the most important reasons is that the death penalty does not only serve to punish the convicted, but also acts as a deterrence to others and warn them of the possible consequences that their illegal acts might bring about. It's purpose is to let people think twice about what they are about to do and what the consequence will be. If the punishment is only life sentence, people might think that it's alright to lose their freedom for the sake of accomplishing their objective.

One might argue that a death sentence is taking away a person's right to live but fact is that life sentence doesn't only deprive them of their freedom, but also their pride and they could not stay closed to their loved ones, such mental torture is more inhumane than a death penalty which reduces the length of pain the criminal has to suffer. Even if the criminal is released after showing signs of repent and good behaviour, people in the outside society will view them through tainted glasses and they will also feel despised. Such mental torture, just to be humane by keeping them alive, will make them suffer more in the long run.

It is undeniable that such criminals are given a death penalty for a reason, take murder for example, if the criminal has taken the right of another person to live, then the law has the authority to take away the right to live from the criminal. Though the victim can never come back to life through such acts, but the convicted must be punished in some ways, if everyone starts to get emotional and only think about how each individual as a human should be treated and how law should not violate the rights of such criminals, then no one in this world would be convicted of any crimes since we're all humans and we have our own rights. Rights are to be used to protect the innocent, not the convicted. Law exists to protect the rights of the society and to maintain peace and order, not for an individual alone. One must be able to distinguish people who deserve to claim their rights from people who have chosen to forsake their rights.

However the law is not perfect and should pass the verdict case by case, and not in general. For example, a criminal who convicted murder should be given death sentence, but perhaps criminals involved in drug trafficking should receive a lighter sentence such as a longer jail term rather than a death sentence straightaway. Such penalties will allow the criminals to repent and reflect and make an effort to change themselves, and if they show signs of improvement, then be allowed to be released. And if they make the mistake and commit the crime second time, should they be given death sentence as it's a sign that they have not learn their mistakes and never will.

Law can be humane when the criminals deserve it, but capital punishment must exist to serve as a warning to all rather than giving them a reason to commit crimes and to punish those who deserves it.

If The Rain Could Bind The Heaven And Earth Who In All Eternity Would Never Meet, Would It Be Able To Bind 2 Hearts?

Plastic surgery has gained popularity recently especially in teenagers and celebrities. It's primary purpose was to help people with deformities or people who have injured themselves in some ways such as a severe burn to recover back to their original looks. However, teenagers and managers see it as an opportunity whether is it to make one self look better or to roll in big bucks. Celebrity are people who appear in the media often of apparently good looks is a prerequisite and the better you look, the more welcomed you are in the public. Companies make use of this opportunity to sculpt an ordinary person into a superstar in a matter of months and it's talents, be it singing or acting another couple of months and there you have it, a modern iconic figure in the media. With the influence of media and celebrity, teenagers are also tempted to go for plastic surgery too thinking result is guaranteed and the outcome would be worth the price. People who are vain or low in self esteem become obsessed with the possible results that plastic surgery could produce and it starts to become a trend to go for plastic surgery. Television programmes such as 'Extreme Makeover' and 'The Swan' based on how people's lives changed were produced as a form of entertainment and also the amount of pain that one must go through to look good. It shows the viewers a positive and negative impacts of plastic surgery and help them make an informed decision and not blinded by the positive results of plastic surgery.

If The Rain Could Bind The Heaven And Earth Who In All Eternity Would Never Meet, Would It Be Able To Bind 2 Hearts?

In my opinion, child pornography is not an issue that only belongs to a talk after dinner to get our minds off work, it's a form of slavery and torture to children, which everyone living in a perfect family would never understand. Although people around the world know that this is a serious issue, hardly any individual takes any actions as they are powerless. The children who are suffering is different from those from a disaster whereby properties and loved ones are lost, but their dignity and a pride to live on is destroyed. They do not need our donations of any kind, they need action which can save them from the current situation. Sad to say, authorities all around the world seems oblivious to the incident, especially the countries where such incidents takes place most often, they allow such slavery to take place and allow it to worsen. Not only poor Asian countries have to resort to such 'business', even in America, children are not spared too. So why not any authorities take any actions? Asian countries were poor mainly due to corruption of the government and their poor leadership. To them, other than spending resources on curbing such actions, they would rather spend it on military or anything else that would affect them to a greater extent. Although there are countless websites that show disapproval to such inhumane actions of child pornography, but reality is cruel, such sites only serve as an information platform, for anything else regarding practical actions, they are powerless. The world is simply too oblivious about such cases, if such incidents are reported on the news, people would look at the children with pity eyes and continue to eat their dinner. However, when people saw a news regarding a cut in salary for the whole nation, they go on strike, why? Simply because it concerns them more than child pornography which don't really affect them and some are even guilty of supporting it. As a student, other than being educated and educating others about it, there's nothing we could do to produce short term immediate results. この世界は悲しい

Here's my first GP blogging assignment, ain't really excited about it anyway. Here goes.

How has YouTube changed the medium of entertainment?

Before YouTube was created, radio and television were the main source of entertainment. However, after YouTube became a popular source for streaming videos across the world, people start turning to it to look for new and interesting clips such as funny commercial from overseas. Why do people turn to YouTube? There are no fixed shows on the site in the first place so the viewing of videos were totally random and the entertainment provided were not only limited to only shows but also music videos, home-made videos and videos of all genre. This provided viewers with a sense of 'freshness' as this was never attempted before - uploading and sharing the video in a mass community. Users can also post videos that showcase their talents such as playing the music Canon In D' using an electric guitar or playing the melody in the game 'Final Fantasy X' using a piano. Another plus point of YouTube is that programs and videos can be viewed anytime compared to television whereby only a fixed time slot is available for that particular program and a common time slot to accommodate everyone is impossible, thus making it more convenient to watch it over YouTube. This also caused other people to set up similar sites such as www.crunchyroll.com which streams mainly anime and drama series to the masses.

YouTube also brought communication among people from all across the world in form of comments on a specific video and exchanging ideas onto a platform where everyone can express themselves freely. This allowed users more freedom in posting comments and discussion to take place. Drama series from Korea, Taiwan and Japan could also be found on YouTube which attracted teenagers specifically which caused many local teenagers to surf the website every now and then. Best of all, it's free and does not require any program to watch the video, unlimited access is within reach with just a click. Funny videos such as an alternate version of songs or music video altered the definition of comedy and broadened it to not only jokes, but also creative yet groovy ideas on how to make a normal video into something extraordinary such as altering a song called 'You're Beautiful' by James Blunt into 'It's Bloody Cold' as the original music video portrays James Blunt stripping off his top in the snow. The videos are also commercial-free which is one big plus for internet streaming videos compared to television programmes which is interrupted by commercials every 15 minutes and it also compensates the lack of visual entertainment that radio lacks. YouTube also has movies and this appealed even more to the general public since it's free. Here's an example of a funny commercial that has over 100 thousand views. Enjoy.

How ethical is YouTube in its dealings in the media industry?

YouTube, undoubtedly, has inconsiderate users who upload unsuitable content videos such as pornography and copyrighted materials on the internet which caused major disputes on how YouTube should operate to remove all such videos, since the site has a large community which includes teenager and pornography has a negative impact on them. However, it's not a cause for much concern as the general users of YouTube flags videos of explicit contents and the people managing the server would remove it as quickly as possible but there are some exceptions such as copyrighted materials which they might have overlooked. Videos such as anime is an example of videos whereby it violated the law of copyright, but users can simply brush it off by saying that they do not know that the video is licensed by a company. Problem lies in the fact that not only 1 user practices such acts, a large number of people also just rip the video off another website and post it in YouTube as their own. Due to it's large server and the astronomical number of videos uploaded everyday, it's impossible to filter out every single video that's not appropriate. Fact is, YouTube is popular as the community ignores all laws and upload whatever videos they want on it, thus a wide range of copyrighted material can be found on the site for free.

YouTube also realise that if they were to completely remove all copyrighted materials, they would lose a lot of users who frequent the web. Mr Brown show made a podcast regarding the issue of creating a website that's like YouTube and he made a prediction of the videos which are going to be uploaded if it follows the law closely - Parliament speeches and National Day Rallies. It is a bit extreme but in general, people would lose interest in such websites and cause a dip in their profits.

My opinions: Apparently they would not remove those videos since it's the lifeline of the site, people wanna make profit, they would use any means to earn those profits. Disagree? Face it, it's society and it's ugly side of competition and especially Google bought YouTube for commercial purpose, if people stop visiting the site, their efforts would go to waste.

If The Rain Could Bind The Heaven And Earth Who In All Eternity Would Never Meet, Would It Be Able To Bind 2 Hearts?

Have you guys ever wondered? Why are we doing this? Why is it a necessity to blog?

If you ask me, this blog for GP thing is totally meaningless. ' blogging allows unlimited access ', i believe it meant that you can access your friend's comments on a specific topic with just a click away since it's linked, but isn't forum, which is just a scroll away more practical? I know there's a school forum but i have no idea what is it used for anyway, but i believe that anyone would find a consolidated thread of everyone's opinion is more convenient rather than finding the specific post in a blog.

Yes yes blog sure is more cool and more trendy but skins were MAINLY copied and pasted anyway, I'm sure some are also using default skins provided. Definitely a forum is easier to manage than a blog and isn't it easier for teachers too? Since they have only 1 website to access and grade the student's work. Thoughts are easily conveyed through a forum post which is definitely more convenient than a blog post, unless the moderator or administrator removes them, the post is there to stay.

Writing format in blog and forum are similar anyway, if we can improve our writing skills by using a blog, we can also do it in a forum. Forum also allows quote and open discussions so obviously it's more effective isn't it?

Blog does help one familiarise themselves with CSS editing and some web publishing skills but on actual fact, blogging is made so easy that a basic blog requires no editing as all are in the template and unless you want to add on decorations for the blog, no knowledge for web publishing is required. This blog you're looking at right now basically is copied and pasted from my class forum, and they don't even take half an hour, so i didn't really learn anything new.

Seriously i don't know why making a blog is compulsory, at least make it optional and a forum for us to discuss in, competition held for those who made a blog for their own purpose which is non GP related, at least this can spike their creativity and make an effort to decorate it nicely right? A blog with GP contents sounds so mis-fit. Forums ain't that boring at all compared to blog since avatars and signatures are allowed to customise but not to the extent of those in a blog definitely.

School forum's layout might be boring or whatsoever but in case you guys don't know, there are servers out there which hosts forums with skins which we can edit to our own liking, then more topics could also be discussed which allows interaction amongst the whole school. Students can also be assigned moderation jobs to let them know how is it like to moderate a forum rather than letting the school admin do everything.

Well just my 2 cents worth...
